Used Shipping Containers for Sale in Texas

We sell used shipping containers in two grades: Wind & Watertight (WWT) and Cargo Grade. Both are sourced from container depots in Houston, Dallas, and El Paso and delivered on a tilt-bed trailer to your site.

What “Used” Means

Used shipping containers are roughly 15 years old on average. They have spent a decade or so crossing oceans, then are retired from international shipping and sold on the secondary market. Built from 14-gauge corten steel, even at this age they typically have 15 to 20 more years of useful life on dry land.

The Two Used Grades We Sell

Wind & Watertight (WWT)

Wind and watertight grade containers have dents, patches, and surface rust. The steel is solid, the doors close and seal, and the container is dry inside. There are no holes. WWT is the most affordable grade we offer and is the right choice for most ground-level storage projects where appearance is not a priority.

Cargo Grade

Cargo Grade is a step up. These containers have less patching, fewer dents, and less rust than WWT. They can be inspected and certified for ocean shipping for an additional fee. If appearance matters or you may need cargo certification, this is the grade to ask about.

How a Used Container Compares to New One-Trip

A new one-trip container is built new in China and shipped one time with cargo to the USA, then sold here. The freight is unloaded and the container is made available for sale. New one-trip containers are in excellent condition with only minor surface scratches or dings possible. They cost more than used grades, and are usually the right choice for container modifications, retail or food service builds, or any project where the container will be visible to customers.

Conex Box Terminology

Used shipping containers are also called conex boxes, sea boxes, or cargo containers. The term “conex” comes from “container express,” used originally by the U.S. military. If you have heard the phrase “conex box” or “conex container,” that is the same product as a used shipping container.

Delivery

Used containers are delivered the same way as new — on a tilt-bed trailer that backs into your placement spot, hydraulically tilts, and slides the container off at ground level. No crane needed.
